Because 'Man cannot live by bread alone' we are involved with community outreach projects to provide services or needs to those less fortunate than ourselves. Health Care Matters is a non-profit organization that offers all medical treatment related to healthcare at several venues: Parkcare Home in Parktown, Forest Farm in Bryanston, and Olievenhoutbosch in Centurion are homes for the Aged and disabled. Uitkoms Tehuis in Observatory is a home for abused and vulnerable young pregnant schoolgirls. Casa-do-Sol School in Linden educates mentally and physically disabled, predominantly down-syndromed, children. Forest Farm is a home for Cerebral Palsied adults. For more information of our involvement visit www.healthcarematters.org (website soon to be adjusted) Mandela Day is an annual initiative in South Africa where we 'give back' to our community either practically with monetary donations or volunteering our time and expertise. Previous years saw us distributing apples to those who are living on the streets or giving 67 minutes of our salaries to needy organisations, or volunteering to teach kids skateboarding in the streets of Johannesburg with Nollie Faith. Previously we have also volunteered at Forest Farm - a home for Cerebral Palsy adults performing exercise testing and rehab prescription, and had fundraiser events for Project Flamingo, and Wellness Days for disadvantaged kids for Rays of Hope. "No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. 'Make level paths for your feet,' so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed." (Hebrews 12: 11-13) |
